Know your filing deadlines
by checking the SLD website often. It is your responsibility to file E-Rate forms on time.
File as early as possible
to allow for correcting mistakes before the end of the filing window and to avoid a last-minute rush to file, which can cause inadvertent errors.
File separate 471 applications
for Priority 1 (Internet Access) and Priority 2 (Internal Connections) to decrease the complexity of the application and speed up the review process on your applications.
File forms online
to reduce paperwork and minimize errors associated with filing on paper. Make sure you have a Personal Identification Number (PIN) so your E-Rate forms can be submitted and certified online via the web. PIN numbers are automatically assigned by the SLD to the authorized person who normally signs E-Rate forms.

Retain paperwork
for a minimum of five years in a secure location that can be easily accessed in the event of an audit.
